The public, governments and business need for rapid and accurate searching for information is widespread and growing quickly. Directories are increasingly being used for this purpose, and there are many suppliers of these, particularly those using the LDAP standards. However often LDAP directories (and relational databases) do not fully provide the functions and facilities that are necessary resulting in poor performance and user dissatisfaction. An electronic identity data hub and directory and discovery server such as the Australian developed ViewDS is developed and optimized to fulfill this need.

ViewDS provides organizations with a fast, scalable and flexible directory system. It has been developed strictly adhering to open standards and it features support for the X.500, LDAP, XLDAP and ACP133 Standards.

ViewDS offers a number of approximate search methods and combines the results to produce a concise list of responses. This makes ViewDS unique in its ability to produce high quality search results and thus it facilitates a far richer and satisfying user experience when searching for information. The choice of which search methods are to be applied to each searchable attribute or combinations of attributes in ViewDS is completely configurable and specified within the directory schema.

ViewDS isn’t simply a network application used to hold user credentials, nor is it a relational database with an LDAP front end. It is a purpose built directory server with a very comprehensive search engine designed and optimized for efficient and accurate retrieval of information. It accommodates electronic access as well as human access from a variety of devices such as the Web, a PDA, a mobile phone or a desktop.
